Abstract Tiles

In early 2019, I received a stack of 12x12 panels and began to experiment. This unlocked a new phase of abstract discovery for me. The limitation of the square provided a sense of freedom. It opened up room for seemingly endless possibilities of color and texture. I worked on many paintings at once, so that they would grow from the same spirit. I bounced between them as they dried and let each one inform the next. Over time I realized the square shape allowed them to be easily combined in various ways like puzzle pieces. Each tile has the ability to compliment or provide a foil to another. When placed in new combinations they create larger, more complex works that begin to reveal the conscious and unconscious thought processes behind their creation.
